JAMMU, Oct 19: International Institute of J&K Studies and Analyses (IIJSA) Jammu is observing “Incredible Week: The Battle of Jhelum Valley Road 22 Oct 1947- 26 Oct 1947”.
Talking to media persons, here today, Brigadier (Retd) Dr Vijay Sagar Dheman, Convenor IIJSA Jammu, said that the event will be conducted every day beginning 24 Oct 2024, 10:00 hrs at Hotel KC Residency and the same will be repeated for different audience till 26 Oct 2024.
The presidential address will be given by Dr Karan Singh, former Sadar-i-Riyasat who was also witness to the events of Srinagar in 1947, he added.
“The highlight of this seminar is that all battles will be presented by either the son/grandson of the martyrs of J&K State forces in this battle as narrated to them by their forefathers or the individuals who were actually in battle themselves,” he said.
Maj Gen (Retd) and former MLA Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, said that Brig Rajinder Singh, who was Chief of Army Staff of J&K State Forces, personally led an unorganized force of 100 men against the Pakistan invaders and fought in contact with enemy. “This is not heard of, ever in annals of the world military history. He prevented 10000 Pak invaders from their attempt to assassinate Maharaja Hari Singh and capture Srinagar. That too with just 100 men, for 4 days on Muzaffarabad Srinagar Road. He obeyed famous commandment of Maharaja Hari Singh to defeat the enemy to ‘the last man last round’. During the battle, he laid down his life to save Kashmir for India,” said Goverdhan Singh Jamwal.
During the conference Prof Aekta Gupta Associate Director IIJSA Jammu, Prof Shalini Rana Secretary IIJSA Jammu, Prof Nutan Restura, Nar Singh Dev Singh Jamwal, Anpurna Pandit, Vishal Dogra and Anish Verma were present.
