SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Despite ban imposed by the High Court, an illegal construction of a hut and road through forest has surfaced at the famed ski resort Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district
A top businessman from Srinagar who has bought “Pride Hut” in Gulmarg Ski resort a year ago is violating the Court order by illegally constructing a new hut in place of the old one.
Sources said that the person has been given permission for only repairing the old hut but he is illegally constructing a new hut, keeping authorities in the dark.
“He was given permission for only minor repairs like face-lifting of the hut, repairing window panes, paint etc. But he started making first a dummy hut alongside the old hut and now he is making a new road with an earth mover towards the hut by cutting the trees in a forest area,” an official said.
They said that the road was being made by cutting the trees in the forest area and Forest Department is least concerned or have been kept in dark, thus affecting the greenery of the resort.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gulmarg, Syed Haneef Balkhie said that earth mover was seized and they are looking into the matter.
