Immunity against stress on natural resources demanded

JAMMU, Aug 21: Sangathan Ex-Servicemen Wing of DSSP supported by Women Wing of the party met under the chairmanship of Colonel J P Singh, Chairman of ESM Cell and Cell Convener Brigadier Vijay Sagar.
The meeting was called to deliberate upon probability of indiscriminate exploitation of Jammu’s rich and abundant natural resources including forests and their produce, rivers, mines and minerals, at the behest of local mafia thereby damaging ecology of the region beyond redemption.
Since Jammu and Kashmir falls in the category of Himalayan States, both Cells felt that forests of Jammu region deserve constitutional safeguards for their conservation like all other Himalayan States. Hence the Government of India should initiate process to prevent their indiscriminate exploitation reiterated both the Wings. It demanded ban on sale/purchase of agriculture land and the routine land use under the garb of development till a formal land use plan of Jammu region is made in consultations with local representatives.
They demanded total ban on agriculture land transfer producing globally popular ‘Basmati Rice of Jammu’ which only can save it from extinction. They also deliberated upon growing un-employment of local youth in J&K and demanded immunity against outsiders’ entry in the Government jobs.
Both Wings demanded immediate restoration of ‘Dogra Certificate’ enabling Dogra youth traditional concessions in enrolment in Defence Forces and Central Security Forces. Growing anguish among the party rank over prolonged detention of ‘Dogra Leaders’ also came up for discussion in the meeting. Both the wings supported their early release reiterating that all of them have welcomed abrogation of contentious Articles 370 and 35-A. They should instead be involved in restoration of peace and normalcy in J&K.
Among others present were Sub JS Chib, Sub Safir Khan, Er Wajid Bashir Khan, Suresh Gupta, Dr HR Sharma, Ramesh Tickoo, PS Pathania, Sunita Sharma, Dr Poonam Sharma, Suman Wazir, Balbir Singh Azad, Bhupinder Singh, Er Sukhdev Singh, SS Billawria, Daljit Singh, Raju Phalwan, Gurdeep Singh and Narinder Gupta.
