JAMMU, Aug 13: Independence Day and Janam Ashtami have been celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Jammu Sanskriti School, Jammu celebrated Janam Ashtami. The celebrations began with the special assembly in which the students of passion house showcased reverence towards the sacred festival by song, dance depicting the life scenes of Lord Krishna and the famous ‘Dahi Handi’ tradition was also observed in the assembly without which our celebrations would have remained incomplete. Principal-cum-Vice Chairperson of the school Rohini Aima in her address apprised the students about the importance of the day. The program was conducted by passion house and was supervised by the coordinators Avneet, Prabhjot, Varuna and Nidhi Kohli.
Kids Kastle Pre School, Sector 6 Nanak Nagar celebrated Janam Ashtami with great fevour and enthusiasm. Tiny toddlers were dressed up as Krishna and Radha. They enacted scenes of Raslila to recreate incidents from the life of Shri Krishna and his love for radha. The scenes of Radha Krishna, Sudama Krishan, Meera Krishna, Rukmani Krishna, Vasudev Deva Ki, Bal Krishna and Dandya dance by gopies mesmerize the audience. Chairman of the school Vishno Devi and Principal Pallvi Gupta addressed the students. The function was organised by the coordinator of the school Sheetal Verma along with her time comprising Madhu Gupta, Neelam, Isha and Vandana.
MNKG Montessori Public High School celebrated Independence Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. The programme started with a speech by Nandan of 8th class followed by Nikita of the same class who presented a patriotic song in her melodious voice. The primary wing presented a colorful dance on a patriotic song. Erenjeet Singh of class 9th enlightened the audience on the importance of Independence Day celebrations. The seniors presented a vibrant Bhangra dance. Other items like dances by students of primary and Playway groups were also displayed. Chairman of the School Rabinder Singh Retd CE threw light over the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
Kids Kudose Public School, Lower Shiv Nagar celebrated Independence Day and Janam Ashtami. National Flag was hoisted in the school premises, followed by National Anthem. Many patriotic items were presented by the children. Girls performed dance item depicting the life of Lord Krishna and Radha. Debates were also held on the occasion. Pratibha Duggal, Principal of the institution threw light on the importance of Independence Day and Janam Ashtami.
To commemorate three day long Janam Ashtami celebrations, International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Temple, Dream City, Jammu took out an impressive ‘Nagar Sankirtan’ at Durga Nagar. Hundreds of devotees from Durga Nagar and surrounding areas took part in the programme. On the arrival of Lord Krishna, aarti was performed, followed by offerings. Amid chanting of “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Hare Rama Hare Rama”, the Nagar Sankirtan started from Sector 1, Durga Nagar park and passed through various streets of the Durga Nagar. The devotees played drums and cymbals synchronizing with the Harinaam Sankirtan. Later, Krishna prasadam arranged by the congregation of Durga Nagar was served to all the devotees.
Aradhana–A ray of hope celebrated Independence Day function in association with Jiger Institute under the ages of Humanity Welfare Organization. The theme for this function was “To comprehend the stigma how the differently abled in our nation are still dependent after its 71 years of freedom”. Over 100 people showed their presence that includes special disabled students from Government Schools across the city and the renowned personalities of J&K who had excelled in their respective fields though being physically disabled including famous artists Bhushan Kesar and Uttam Kumar; National Roller Skating Gold Medalist Chandeep Singh Soodan, Head of Mentally Retarded Home Channi Rama Jammu Rajinder Sharma and Founder of Jiger Institute Sandhaya Dhar. The children performed patriotic dance and a motivating skit that was inspired from the life of great dancer Sudha Chandran. A special performance was presented by the physically disabled kid that captivated the audience. Aradhana group releases a Chapter named “Aparajit” for disable people.
To commemorate Independence Day, Yuva Sewa Sangh Jammu organized a bike rally “Desh Bhakti Yatra”. The yatra started from Asharam Bapu ashram Bhagwati Nagar and after passing through various areas culminated at ashram. The aim of the rally was to support the Indian soldiers, who are sacrificing their lives for the sake of the nation.
To celebrate Independence Day, Jammu and Kashmir Unity Foundation and Association SEED in collaboration Mother India Senior Secondary School, RS Pura held one day workshop on National Integration. The programme started with Saraswati Vandana by the students and lighting of the traditional lamp by Principal of the School Sonia Tohra, Principal Rajinder Choudhary, President Jammu Kashmir Unity Foundation Ajaat Jamwal and Defence and strategic expert Dr Ajay Chrungoo. A quiz competition on history and culture of Jammu and Kashmir was held which was conducted by Dimple Koul, Project officer, Association SEED. Kartik, Amit and Rabjyot won the first, second and third prize. The prize carried a cash amount of Rs 500, Rs 300 and Rs 200 and a memento to the winners respectively.
