India dismisses suggestion for US mediation to resolve issues with Pak

NEW DELHI/NEW YORK: India today dismissed the suggestion for American mediation to resolve issues with Pakistan, hours after US Representative to UN Nikki Haley said the Trump administration would like to be part of the efforts to de-escalate the tension between the two countries.

The US had so far been maintaining that it was for India and Pakistan to settle their issues bilaterally.

Reacting to the Ms Haley’s remarks, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay made it clear, “Government’s position for bilateral redressal of all India-Pakistan issues in an environment free of terror and violence hasn’t changed.”

He, however, said India expected the international community and organisations to enforce international mechanisms and mandates concerning terrorism emanating from Pakistan, “which continues to be the single biggest threat to peace and stability in our region and beyond.” (AGENCIES)
