JAMMU, June 26: Amidst regular exchanges of mortar shelling and firing on the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian and Pakistan Army officials today exchanged sweets at Chakan-Da-Bagh cross-LoC point in Poonch district while BSF and Rangers also celebrated Eid jointly at various places along the International Border (IB).
While sweets were exchanged during the day, it was exchange of shelling during night at Balakot sector of poonch.
Sources said the Army officials of India and Pakistan met at Chakan-Da-Bagh for about half an hour this morning during which the two sides exchanged sweets and greetings on the occasion of Eid festival. The Indian delegation was led by Major Choudhary and comprised one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four jawans while the Pakistan army team was headed by Major Yasir Iqbal and had one Subedar and four jawans.
Both sides were at the cross-LoC point of Chakan-Da-Bagh for about half an hour during which the exchange of sweets and greetings took place and both sides returned to their respective locations.
The exchange of sweets also took place at some other places along LoC.
Meanwhile, BSF and Rangers also exchanged sweets at many places along the International Border in Jammu sector today on the occasion of Eid festival.
“The sweets, fruits and greetings were exchanged between BSF and Rangers in several border areas of Jammu sector this morning,” sources said.
The International Border has been virtually peaceful for the past quite some time now barring rare ceasefire violations by Pakistan side with firing of few bullets. However, the BSF had recently taken up with the Rangers the ceasefire violations on the International Border.
Sources said the exchange of sweets and fruits between Army officials of India and Pakistan and border guarding forces, BSF and Rangers, on various festival and other significant occasions has been a routine and this took place as usual today as well.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing along LoC in Balakot Sector of Poonch at 8.30 pm today. Indian side retaliated effectively.
However, there was no reports of casualties or damage on the Indian side when the reports last came in.
