JAMMU, Dec 24: The highly anticipated India-UAE Masters Cup 2024 cricket tournament was officially inaugurated today at the Jammu University Cricket Ground. The four-day event, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police under the guidance of DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, aims to foster sportsmanship while promoting a message of “Love Sports, Say No to Drugs.”
The inaugural ceremony was graced by ADGP Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, who was the chief guest for the occasion. After inaugurating the event, Jain interacted with both teams and engaged in a coin toss to kick-start the match. The Indian team comprises Jammu and Kashmir Police officers and veteran cricketers, while the UAE team consists of players who were originally from India but have since settled in the UAE.
Speaking at the event, ADGP Anand Jain highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in promoting sports and wellness among the youth. He emphasized the ongoing efforts under the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Civic Action Programme (CAP), which aims to inspire young people to stay away from drugs and actively engage in sports. “Such initiatives are essential to keep our youth engaged in productive activities,” Jain said.
DIG, Shiv Kumar Sharma also shared his enthusiasm, stressing that the tournament provides an excellent platform. “This is an effort to keep youth away from drugs and encourage them to focus on healthy pursuits,” he added.
The UAE players expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality extended. Some players mentioned that although they had visited Jammu before as tourists, this was their first time participating in a cricket tournament, and they were thrilled by the warmth they received. Several players also expressed their excitement about exploring the region’s scenic tourist spots during their stay.
