Indian Ice Hockey team seeks Ladakh LG’s intervention for 9th Asian Winter Games participation

LEH, Jan 11: A delegation from the Indian men’s Ice Hockey team, comprising players from Ladakh, led by Tsewang Gyaltsan, called on Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, here today. The meeting was attended by Advisor to the LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Vikram Singh Malik.
Tsewang Gyaltsan informed the Lieutenant Governor about the Ministry of Youth Services and Sports’ decision not to send the Indian men’s Ice Hockey team to the 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled from February 7 to 14, 2025, in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. He requested the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention, highlighting the team’s extensive preparation for the event and their eagerness to participate.
The Lieutenant Governor, after discussing the matter with the Minister of Youth Services and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, assured the delegation that efforts would be made to facilitate the participation of the Indian men’s Ice Hockey team, particularly as many of the players are from Ladakh, where they practice the sport at altitudes exceeding 11,000 feet. The LG emphasized that the youth of Ladakh would greatly benefit from this opportunity.
