KISHTWAR, Feb 20: Aggrieved over failure of PHE Department to provide water supply in Wasser and Kuleed areas, inhabitants of these areas today staged a sit-in protest on the road leading to DC office.
Hundred of villagers including men, women and children participated in the protest and raised slogans against PHE Department as well as district administration. They were alleging that due to negligence of PHE Department, people of Wasser and Kuleed areas area are facing acute water crisis.
“We are provided drinking water once in a fortnight. Every time we take up the issue with the PHE authorities, they said due to break down of Nai Gad Water Scheme, supply is hampered,” the protesting villagers said.
Alleging deliberate step motherly treatment with Wasser and Kuleed areas, protesters said that consumers of town are given water supply twice a day where as they are being ignored for the reasons best known to PHE Department. They said even on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, they are bound to beg for single drop of water which is very unfortunate.
Due to dharna and protest, traffic on the busy road was halted for some time. It was only after getting written assurance from the PHE department in presence of local administration and police, the protest was called off.
