JAMMU, Sept 25: The highly anticipated two-Day Inter-College Chess tournament 2024 for Men and Women was inaugurated today at the Government College of Education, Jammu, amid great enthusiasm. Organized under the supervision of Dr Vinod Bakshi, Director Sports, Cluster University of Jammu, the tournament has drawn participation from renowned institutions such as GGM Science College, Govt. MAM College, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, PSPSGCW Gandhi Nagar, and the host institution, Govt. College of Education. The event is divided into both men’s and women’s categories, adding to the competitive spirit.
Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal of Government College of Education, formally opened the tournament with a warm welcome address. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of chief guest Mohd. Zubair. The event is being organized by the College Sports Committee, led by Convener Ramandeep Kralia, with significant contributions from faculty members Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Dr. Shalini Rana, Prof. Priyanka Mahajan, Prof. Sarita Dogra, and Dr. Sonam Gandotra. The proceedings of the event were smoothly conducted by Dr. Rakesh Bharti.
Several dignitaries, including Prof. Satish Kumar, Neenu (Physical Director of MAM College), Ravi Kumar (Physical Director of SPMR College of Commerce), Kajal Premi (Physical Director of GCW Gandhi Nagar), and Shushil Kumar, who officiated the matches, were present at the event.
On the first day, GGM Science College secured a decisive 3-0 victory against MAM College in the men’s category, while Govt. SPMR College of Commerce defeated Govt. College of Education by the same score. In the women’s category, GCW Gandhi Nagar triumphed over Govt. College of Education with a 3-1 win, and GGM Science College claimed a 3-2 victory against Govt. SPMR College of Commerce after receiving a walkover from MAM College. The tournament will continue tomorrow with more thrilling matches expected as teams vie for the championship.
