JAMMU, Dec 21: Literary Club and Department of Urdu of Govt SPMR College of Commerce in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized lnter-College Multi-Lingual Mushaira in the College auditorium.
Dr Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges J&K was the chief guest on the occasion and Bharat Singh Manhas, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was the guest of honour. The event began with lighting of the lamp. At the outset, Dr Monika Malhotra, Coordinator Literary Club presented the welcome address.
Dr Yasmeen Ashai, in her address, applauded the efforts of the college for organizing such activity and said that the perspective of NEP-2020 is to focus on multilingualism and the power of language. She further said that more of such activities should be conducted in the colleges to develop the literary taste among the young generation as new policy promotes holistic learning, skill development and instills creative and multidisciplinary courses.
Speaking on the occasion, Bharat Singh Manhas said that Cultural Academy is always ready to extend support for organizing such activities. Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal, Govt SPMR College of Commerce appreciated the initiative of conducting Multi-Lingual Mushaira. He apprised Director Colleges about the various activities that are conducted in the college under various schemes of Govt of India.
Around 20 eminent poets and 10 participants from the constituent colleges of Cluster University of Jammu along with faculty members showcased their talent in the event by presenting poetry on various social issues. Among the galaxy of eminent writers, the invited guests were Prithpal Singh Betab (Retd IAS), Ahmad Shanaas (Retd DC), Nasib Singh Manhas (Director Doordarshan), Surinder Neer, Bhupinder Singh, Piaray Hatash, Dr Kuldeep Dogra, Dr Bhagmati Verma, Dr. Sarita Khajuria, Dr. Deepak Pathania, Prof. Apfan Ali, Dr. Shahnaz Qadri, Tariq Raza, Naseem Akhter, Vijaya Thakur and Toseef Tabish.
The proceedings of the Mushaira were conducted by Prof Apfan Ali while as Prof Deepshikha Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks.
