UDHAMPUR, Sept 28:  Miss Pooja Mahajan, a student of Govt. PG College, Udhampur  secured first position in an inter- college symposium on the topic “Civil Defence & Disasters Mitigation” held in the premises of Govt. College for Women here today.
The symposium was organized by Civil Defence Organization(CD), Udhampur.
District Manager Cluster Head J&K Bank Udhampur, Iqbal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion while Principal of host College, Prof.. Yudhvir Singh presided over the function.
As many as, six students drawn from three colleges of the town participated in the symposium and expressed their views.
In the contest, 2nd position was  bagged by Preeti of Govt. Women College Udhampur while Sheetal Jamwal of Baskar Degree College and Priyanka Bandra of Govt. Women Collegeshared the  third position. Besides, Sumitu Devi of Govt P G College and Shoba Laxmi Parihar of Baskar Degree College were given consolation prizes.
Appreciating the role of Civil Defence Udhampur, the Chief guest highlighted the role of wardens for their Voluntary Services in helping the people during disasters. He advised the students to ensure maximum involvement in the Civil Defence organization.
Highlighting the role of CD, the Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Udhampur,  Bodh Raj said that trained CD volunteers could prove instrumental in managing the situation effectively besides building self confidence and concern for humanity among the masses. He said that CD Organization has been designed to educate the masses about various issues like earthquakes, floods, traffic, etc. so that they could prove helpful in managing the situation effectively.
During the contest, CPO, Kamal Sharma, Social Worker, Raj Guru and ZPEO, Bhushan Sethi were acted as judges.
Civil Defence organization distributed cash prizes among the participants.
Deputy Chief Warden, Civil Defence Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal compared the proceedings of the pogramme while Deputy Chief Warden, Ved Parkash presented vote of thanks
Among others, Chief Warden CD, Surinder Khjauria, teachers, students, civil defence wardens and volunteers were present on the occasion.
