JAMMU, Oct 18: The Inter-Collegiate Basketball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball Tournaments for 2024-25, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, came to an exciting conclusion today. Teams from various colleges displayed excellent sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the events.
In basketball, GDC Kunjwani claimed the men’s title, defeating the P.G. Department by 6 points. In the women’s category, GCW Parade outplayed the P.G. Department, winning by 9 points.
The table tennis tournament also saw thrilling performances. GDC Udhampur triumphed in the men’s category, beating ASCOMS Jammu by 3-0, with Madhav Sharma, Sourav, and Madhav Magotra contributing with straight victories. The P.G. Department dominated the women’s section, beating GDC Ramnagar by 3-0, with Shradha, Kajal and Sakshi Dabgotra sealing the win. GMC Kathua secured the bronze medal in the women’s event, while GCET beat GDC Doda to claim third place in the men’s section.
In volleyball, GDC Kunjwani emerged victorious in the men’s section, defeating GDC Rajouri by 2-0. Other notable winners included GDC Kilotran, GDC Bhaderwah, PG Department and GDC Poonch. The women’s volleyball matches saw GDC Poonch beat GDC Khilotran and GCW Parade secured a tough win over GDC Poonch, taking the set 2-0.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of sports in fostering teamwork, fitness, and discipline. The tournaments were a resounding success, with participants eager for future competitions. The events were officiated by experienced referees, including Amit Sharma, Shubham Sharma, Manu Singh Pawar, Vikas Karlopia, and Mulkh Raj.
