JAMMU, Aug 16: Inter District Divisional Level Competitions of Jammu division in the disciplines of Chess and Carrom (all age groups) boys and girls got underway at Youth Hostel Nagrota, here today.
In all, 70 Players drawn from six districts of Jammu division which include Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Doda, Kathua and Ramban are taking part in the competition.
The competition is being organized under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, Director Youth Services and Sports, and under the Chairmanship of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports, Jammu, while Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the organizing secretary of the competition.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Chanchal Kour in a simple but` well attended function.
According to the organizers, the main objective of the competition is to select the teams of Jammu division for their further participation in State Level competitions 2017.
Earlier, in Chess Under- 14 boys, Dewang Gupta of Jammu District emerged1st and Sahib Singh of Jammu district defeated Shivam of Kathua district, while in Chess Under-17 boys, Aniket of Kathua district drubbed Minto of Samba district, while Purav Mahajan of Kathua district got better of Niketan of Doda district.
In Chess Under-19 boys, Harshit Gupta of Jammu district beat Mohit of Kathua district and Anurag of Kathua district prevailed over Ram Sehwag of Udhampur district.
In Carrom Under- 14 boys’ doubles, Vishwas and Akshay Kumar of SOS Jammu beat Aquib Mushtaq and Preet Singh of APS Sunjwan by 4-3 points, while in Carrom Under-17 boys doubles, Tanish and Rohit of GHSS Channi Himmat defeated Shubam and Aditiya of APS Domana by 8-3 points.
In Carrom Under-19 boys doubles, Abishek Singh and Gourav Chib of GHSS Grota defeated Mritunjay and Saksham of Oriental Academy Jammu by 5-3 points, while in Carrom Under-14 boys singles,
Shubam Pangotra of APS Domana drubbed Vishwas of SOS by 4-2 points.
In Carrom Under-17 singles, Sohaib of District Radmban trounced Aditiya Kumar of APS Domana by 6-0 points, while in Carrom Under-19 boys singles, Keshav of GHSS K. Nagrota defeated Sahil of GHSS Nowabad by 7-6 points.
Meanwhile, the Department of Youth Services and Sports started its Inter District Divisional Level Tournament for under-19 boys and girls in the discipline of Belt Wrestling at Sports Stadium Kathua under the chairmanship of Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Madan Lal and overall supervision (Organizing Secretary) District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj.
14 players drawn from Jammu division participated on inaugural day.
In below 42 kg, Manjeet Kumar of Kathua got gold and Sharad Kesar of Jammu claimed silver, while in below 45 kg, Murad Ali of Kathua clinched gold and Gurang Kotwal of Jammu claimed silver.
In below 49 kg, Bagh Hussain of Kathua won gold and Abhishek Sharma of Kathua bagged silver, while in below 54 kg, Liaqat Ali of Kathua claimed gold and Mansher Singh of Jammu got silver.
In below 59 kg, Manzoor Hussain of Kathua won gold, while in below 65 kg, Shubham Sharma of Jammu gold and Hitesh Singh of Kathua bagged silver.
In below 76 kg, Akhil Sharma of Kathua won gold and Manshit Manhas of Jammu claimed silver, while in below 85 kg, Raghu Sharma of Kathua won gold.
The event was officiated by Kuldeep Singh, Pankaj Spolia and Punjab Singh.
