JAMMU, Dec 2: State Level Inter-Division Rope Skipping Under-19 boys and girls and Taekwondo Under-17 boys and girls competitions got underway at Indoor Complex MA Stadium, here today.
The competitions were declared open by Navin Aggarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports in a well attended function.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aggarwal said that sports has great role to play in personality development, adding that the competitions like this help in tapping talent at grass-root level.
The competitions are being held under the patronage of Navin Aggarwal, while Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Ved Parkash is the chairman and DYSSO, Jammu, Tirath Ram as organizing secretary.
Earlier, in Taekwondo Under-17 boys, the gold medal winners in various weight categories included Gopal Mehra, Parmarh Singh of Jammu, Bhaskar of Jammu, Aquib Gulzar of Kashmir, Anayat Hussain of Kashmir, Sankeet Sharma of Jammu, Avzaib of Kashmir and Vipan Kohli of Jammu, while in Taekwondo Under-17 girls, the gold medals went to Farzana Batoot of Kashmir, Reshma Batoot of Kashmir, Ambreen Fatima of Jammu, Sidika Charak of Jammu, Narmita Katoch of Jammu, Sana Afzal of Kashmir, Nusrat Fatima of Kashmir, Roma Bano of Jammu and Hena Bali of Jammu.
Meanwhile in Rope Skipping Under-19 boys, the gold medal winners included Rahul Dogra, Vasu Sawhney, Sudanshu Sharma, Kumar Shantanu, Sunil Kumar and Abhishek Sangra, while in Under-19 girls, the gold medals were bagged by Shanu Devi, Sumiya Bano, Arzoo Akhtar, Andleebe Jan, Mehvish and Azra Jan.
