Inter-School Athletics Meet concludes at Mendhar

POONCH, Nov 1: Ace of Spades Gunners organised first ever ‘Inter-School Athletics Meet’ at Mendhar in the Sub division of Poonch district, here today.
Students from four Schools viz Government GHS School (Mendhar), Government High School (Upper Dharana) and Government High School (Sakhi Maidan) participated in the event. Various track and field events which included 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, relay race, javelin, discus, shot put and long jump were conducted during the event.
The event was organized to promote Khelo India programme in far flung areas near the Line of Control for School students which will enable the nation to achieve the ambition of ‘Mission Olympics’ and establish India as a great sporting nation.
More than 150 students including 72 girls of different age groups from five schools participated in the event with high spirit and enthusiasm. The event culminated with prize distribution which was attended by CO, Mendhar Gunners, SDM Mendhar, SDPO Mendhar and ESM along with other prominent civilians of the area.
Govt High School Sakhi Maidan stood first in boys category, Govt GHS remained first in girls category. Mohd Yasir from GHS Dharana stood first among the boys and was awarded the trophy of best athlete boy, while among the girls, Isharat Choudhary from GGHSS Mendhar remained first and was awarded the trophy of best athlete girl.
Later, the National integration pledge was taken by all present at the culmination of the event. This initiative of the Indian Army in remote areas along the Line of Control was highly appreciated by people of the area.
