LEH, Sept 13: The second NHPC Inter-School Debate Competition was held here in which 35 schools of the district participated.
This was the second edition of the debate which was started last year under a joint initiative of NHPC, Leh Administration, State Bank of India and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
Bollywood actress and former Miss India, Gul Panag was the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh was the guest of honour. Seventy students from various Government and private schools participated in the debate, the topic for which was “American model presidential democracy is better than the Indian model of parliamentary democracy”.
The Army Public School, Phyang won the overall championship trophy, whereas Moravian Mission and Ladakh Public School stood second and third respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Gul Panag said that the platform provided by NHPC is indeed huge to boost the confidence of students. She recollected her days in KV Leh and said that she was honoured to be the chief guest in the function. Cash prizes, trophies and certificates were given to top ten individual positions.
