Inter-State drug peddlers racket busted, three arrested with 25 kg poppy straw

JAMMU, June 2: Gangyal police under Operation Sanjeevani busted inter-State drug peddlers racked with the arrest of three persons and recovery of 25 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki).
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Kunjwani Chowk and asked three pedestrians carrying bags to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrians tried to escape from the spot, but the cops nabbed them after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 25 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession and arrested them.
The accused have been identified as Majinder Singh and Parvinder Singh, sons of Satnam Singh and Jalla, son of Jeet Ram, trio residents of Jalandhar, Punjab.
During questioning, the accused disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth. With their arrest, police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 40/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at police station Gangyal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
