Inter-State gang of thieves busted; stolen ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh recovered

JAMMU, Nov 30: Police in Kanachak area here claimed today they have busted a gang of thieves and recovered from their possession stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh.
A police spokesperson said that a complaint was lodged at Police Station Kanachak regarding a theft in the area where one golden chain, two golden rings, and Rs 25000 in cash was stolen from a house.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 192/2023 Under Section 454, 380 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Kanachak and investigation started.
During investigation, the police spokesperson said that teams of Police Station Kanachak led by SDPO Domana Vishal Shoor assisted by SHO Kanchak Inspector Tribhuvan Khajuria rounded up a suspected person Lovedeep Singh of Khichian, Tehsil Mukerian, Punjab.
On further questioning, the suspect admitted to have committed the crime and later disclosed the names of his other associates involved in the crime. They were identified as Pankaj of Fattwal, Tehsil Mukerian, District Hoshiarpur; Jimmy Kumar of Mukerian, District Hoshiarpur, and Manjeet Singh of Village Bopor, Tehsil Khour.
Accordingly, police arrested all the accused, who were also involved in several other theft cases registered in Punjab and J&K.
Further, after the disclosure of the accused to have sold the stolen gold and silver ornaments to a local goldsmith, Prince Khanna of Raja Bazar Akhnoor, Jammu, the fifth accused was also arrested with 8 tolas of the stolen gold items, and 10 tolas of silver items worth around 5 lakh.
The overall arrests and recoveries were made under the supervision of SP Rural Rahul Charak.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
