Inter State narcotics smuggler nabbed with 5.7 qtls poppy straw

RAMBAN, Jan 21: Banihal police nabbed inter state narcotics smuggler along with 5.70 quintals of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T-Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB02BV-7665.
During checking, police detected a specially fabricated chamber in the toolbox of the vehicle inside which 25 bags filled with 570 kilograms of poppy straw got recovered.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Mangal Ram, son of Swarn Ram of Gorsianilal Tehsil Phillour, District Jalandhar, Punjab was arrested on the spot.
During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that the consignment was meant to be delivered at Jalandhar to a local conduit for further sale among the youth.
A case under FIR Number 8/19 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
