JAMMU, Dec 14: The Inter-Zonal Sports Meet 2017 in a galaxy of sports disciplines, being organized by Armed Police J&K, will be declared open on December 16, 2017 at Gulshan Ground, here.
This was informed by AK Choudhary, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed while addressing media persons at PHQ Lawn, Gulshan ground, here today.
Mr Choudhary was accompanied by Shafqat Watali, IGP Armed, Dr SD Singh, IGP Jammu and Suleman Choudhary, Director Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy.
He said that the events will be held in both men and women sections in the disciplines of Basketball, Volleyball, Tug-of-War, Boxing, Wrestling, Judo (men only), Weightlifting, Football (men only), Handball, Kabaddi, Wushu, Archery (women only), Hockey (men only), Shooting, Athletics, Badminton (men), Table Tennis (men) and Lawn Tennis (men).
“This 8-days championship in which six zones namely Armed, Kashmir, Jammu, Training, CD/HD/SDRF and INTELSECT are participating, will conclude on December 23, 2017,” said the organizers.
Mr Choudhary said that Jammu and Kshmir has to its credit many achievements in sports.
Giving detail of the achievements, he said J&K Police Central Sports Wrestling team has won 2 bronze medals in 65th Wrestling Cluster-2016 at Patna in Bihar, Police Boxing team has won 2 bronze medals in 66 Wrestling Cluster -2017 and J&K Police Water Sports team has clinched 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in the 17th AIP Water Sports Championship-2017, India team excelled under the coaching of National Chief Coach, Inspector Kuldeep Handoo, wining a big haul of medals at the International scene in prestigious Wushu Championships.
He further said that the championship is a step forward in giving fillip to sports and games in general and providing platform to the jawans in particular for showcasing their talent, adding that J&K Police has organized a big number of Championships and this tournament is one among its mega events.
