Inter-Zonal tournament for U-14, U-17 boys gets underway

UDHAMPUR, May 29: District Level Inter Zonal tournament for Boys Under-14 and Under-17 years in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Wrestling got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
Chief Education Officer, Bishan Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, who declared the tournament open, while JM Tharmat, District Education Planning Officer, Udhampur was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest said that games and sports play vital role for the all-round development of an individual.
About 460 boys drawn from 11 zones of the District participated in the Tournament.
The Tournament is being organized under the patronage of Jahangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K and under the overall supervision of Sunil Singh Sambyal, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Udhampur.
Earlier, in Volleyball Under-14 boys, Tikri defeated Ramnagar in straight sets by (25-27; 25-17), while in  Volleyball Under-17 boys Udhampur defeated Tikri in two straight sets by (25-13; 25-18).
In Kabaddi Under-14 boys, Jib zone defeated Majalta zone by 23-15 points, while in Kabaddi Under-17 boys, Panchari defeated Jib in close contested match by 36-31.
In Kho-Kho Under-14 boys, Udhampur defeated Tikri by 9-3, while in Kho-Kho Under-17 boys, Udhampur defeated Jib by 11-5.
The gold medal winners in wrestling Under-14 boys included Pawan Kumar, Ranjeet Singh, Shamsher Singh and Jugal Kishore, while wrestling Under-17 boys, the gold medal went to Ajay Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Ravi Kumar and Mohd Saleem.
The matches were officiated by Ravi Singh, Kuldeep Kumar, Raj Kumar Gupta, Rakesh Modi, Raj Kumar, Romesh Chander, Sanjay Kumar, Naveen Sharma, Pushp Sharma, Raman Kumar, Vaishnoo Devi, Bandana Sharma, Rishi Kumar Sharma Manik Nargotra, Shashi Sharma, Sunil Kumar and Vikrant Balgotra.
