JAMMU, Oct 5: Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the Valley, former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today alleged that law and order situation in Kashmir has deteriorated since the BJP Government came to power at the Centre.
While interacting with prominent people of Dharap in Gandhi Nagar constituency today, Bhalla alleged that Pakistan is constantly creating terror in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that ceasefire violations by Pakistan have doubled since the BJP-led NDA Government took over reins of the country.
“During the run up to the general elections in 2014, BJP leadership used to target UPA Government by saying Manmohan Singh Government was weak in dealing with such violations. Why Modi is silent now over repeated ceasefire violations resulting in death and destructions of civilian population,” Bhalla said.
Congress leader said it was shameful and deplorable that the Government was not admitting that it was helpless in the face of such terrible violations which cost the country in terms of lives of precious civilians and jawans. He claimed that in 2013 Modi used to attack the then UPA Government over casualties along borders but he is now silent when there are far more of them. He said that Modi Government seems to have no policy on Kashmir and a definite policy to deal with Pakistan. The situation in Kashmir has gone from bad to worse but the top BJP leadership at the Centre is unable to understand the gravity of the situation and take appropriate measures.
“This Government has shut its eyes towards what’s happening in Kashmir and on the J&K borders. Governance is not visible on the ground in the State. Kashmir is boiling with rage and ineffective Government is just watching the situation helplessly,” Bhalla said.
He said the anti-people policies of the PDP-BJP dispensation have brought Kashmir at the volatile crossroads of history where nothing is visible except uncertainty, fear and harassment. The scenario across the Valley is so grim that the people are apprehensive about their safety with economic activity and development coming to grinding halt. He said the current ‘insensitive dispensation’ has exposed people to administrative inertia, as a result of which they were suffering on all fronts.
