International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed in J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, June 26: Along with the world, “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” was observed by various Government and private organizations across Jammu and Kashmir to raise public awareness and mobilize support for drug control. Click here to watch video
A rally was organized Narcotics Control Bureau, Jammu Zonal Unit, in which State Excise Department, J&K Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), BSF, CRPF, Drug Controller, De-addiction Centre Jammu and artists of Nav Durga Kala Manch as well general public participated. The rally was flagged off by IGP Jammu Dr S D Singh, in presence of Virendra Kumar Yadav, Zonal Director, NCB Jammu. Nukkad Natak at District Jail Ambphalla, Central Jail Jammu, NCC Nagrota Camp and at Railway Station Jammu were also organized to spread the message of awareness against the drug abuse.
To observe the Day, J&K AIDS Control Society organized a mega function, which was attended by representatives from Civil Society Forum Kashmir, different NGOs and general public. Dr Saleem-ur-Rahman (Director General Health Services Kashmir) was chief guest on this occasion and he emphasized on need of community participation for ensuring success of such campaigns. Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Project Director JKSACS, made a detailed presentation on the `Proposal for Eradication of Drug Menace in J&K’ and also highlighted the different activities being carried out in this direction by J&K AIDS Control Society.
Crime Branch, Jammu carried out huge rallies in Jammu city today for fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.   The Officers / Officials of Crime Branch, Jammu made announcements through Public address system in different parts of the city by way of road shows, display of banners, placards, circulation of pamphlets, booklets and other documents, containing valuable  information on the abuse of drugs.   These rallies were flagged off by Suram Singh, Addl Supdt. of Police, Crime Branch, Jammu
GRP Katra  organised  a functioning in connection with `International drugs Abuse and illicit trafficking day’,  which was attended by Ranjit Singh Sambyal, SSP, Railways Katra, alongwith SDPOs Railways Katra/Udhampur, SHO P/S GRP Katra/Udhampur/Manwal/ all I/C PPs and other officers/officials of GRP Katra for  inculcating  the  awareness with regard to drug abuse. A lecture was delivered regarding role of the parents and society to rehabilitate those involving in the drug intoxication.
District Development Commissioner, Poonch Mohammad Aijaz Asad flagged-off a marathon against drugs, which was organized by the District Administration and witnessed participation of youth groups, senior citizens, students and officials from the Government departments. The marathon was followed by various rallies, sports activities, symposiums and awareness campaigns in different colleges and schools of the district. Govt Higher Secondary School, Gunthal, Surankote and Girls Higher Secondary School, Mandi organised student rallies against drug abuse while symposiums and rallies were  organised by HSS, Boys, Surankote and HSS, Loran.
Poonch Police also organized a bike rally to spread awareness against drug menace. The bike rally was flagged off from DPL Poonch by ASP Anwar ul Haq who was accompanied by DySP Mohan Sharma, DySP Bhisham Dubey and SHO Poonch Sachinder Singh. The rally passed through different areas within the city before culminating at the Sports Stadium Poonch.  ASP Anwar ul Haq said that apart from arresting peddlers and seizing contraband, police have also taken the responsibility to run mass awareness campaigns on the issue so that people know the ill-effects of addiction.
On International Day Against Drugs Abuse, Rajouri Police also held series of events across the district. The m main event was held at district headquarter in which an awareness rally against drugs abuse was organised. Health and Medical Education Department coordinated in holding this rally, which started from District Hospital Rajouri and was flagged off by Additional SP Rajouri, Mohd Yousuf in presence of Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Bajar and DySP Hqrs Govind Rattan.
Another event was organised in Himalayan Education Mission (HEM) College while an
awareness programme for drivers and conductors was organised at main bus stand Rajouri Similar awareness programmes were organized by Rajouri Police at Kalakote and Sunderbani.
Doda Police held an informative cum awareness programme on drug Abuse in at Boys HSS Doda and HSS Khellani.  During the programme, lectures were delivered by the number of speakers about the evil of drug abuse and its bad impacts on the society, especially young generation. Principal Tanveer Wani and Counsellor deputed by Police Hqrs, Baljeet Singh, highlighted evils of drug abuse. Later on, Police teams led by DySP Hqts Doda, DySP DAR and SHO Doda also destroyed crops of cannabis (Bhang) in Akaramabad area of Doda.
District administration Samba organized an anti-drug awareness rally which was flagged off by Executive Officer, Municipality Samba. An awareness programme was also organized in which Assistant Controller Drugs Renuka Raina made an earnest appeal to the public at large to strictly keep a close watch on their wards, especially school going children, in order to keep them away from the evils of drugs. SSP Samba Anil Magotra, ADDC Samba Pankaj Mogotra, ADC Samba, Additional SP Samba, CMO Samba, district officers from various departments, officials from Drugs and Food Safety, members of Lion Club Samba, People’s Forum for Human Value Samba, Young Blood Donar Association Samba, Rotary Club Samba and students were also present on the occasion.
Education Department Ramban  organized an awareness programme and rally  in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School (GHHS) Ramban,  wherein ADDC  Ravinder Nath Sadhu was the chief guest while  CEO, AH Fani was the guest of honour. The function concluded with an oath to pledge for making   “Drugs free society” being a sincere, unbiased, fearless and responsible citizen.
NCC girl cadets from GDC Udhampur took out a rally through the NH1 roads of the city. They sported placards displaying messages aimed at creating awareness on the disastrous effect of intoxication from drugs on individual and society’s health and economy. Prof   S K Magotra, Principal, GDC Udhampur flagged off the rally, which started from the College gate and covered major areas of the town.
Girl BN NCC of GDC R S Pura also organized an anti-drug rally, which was flagged off by Prof S K Dhar. During the rally, NCC cadets raised slogans against drug abuse and created awareness about side effects related to negative use of drugs. The cadets also interacted with the general public and specifically appealed to youth to resist drugs and breathe a drug free life.
Govt Degree College Banihal observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organizing a function. On the occasion, the Principal exhorted upon the students to create awareness regarding the prevention of usage of drugs in the society. Various students, including NCC/NSS, participants also and delivered speeches relating to the theme”Listen First”.
Students, NCC cadets and staff of Government Higher Secondary School Bhaderwah tookout an awareness rally against drug abuse at Bhaderwah on Tuesday.  The rally, led by SHO Bhaderwah Muneer Khan, after passing through Chobia Link Road and New Bus Stand, culminated back to School premises. Earlier, a Debate competition on the topic ‘Drug Abuse’ was also organised at GHSS Boys Bhaderwah.  Dozens of students and NCC cadets spoke on the topic and highlighted the abuses of drugs in the society and its bad impacts on the young generation.
NCC unit of GDC Kishtwar organized a seminar cum debate competition wherein Prof PK Sharma, Principal, was the chief guest. A number of students spoke on the occasion. From the faculty, Prof S K Sen, Dr Barket Ali, Prof Sonika Sen and Prof Madhu Bala delivered special lectures on the issue of increasing drug abuse and its impact on the society. The program was coordinated by Lieutenant Satish Thakur Associate NCC Officer of the College.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, while addressing a function organised by the Team Jammu in connection with the World Anti-Drug Day at Jagat Resorts, Shakti Nagar, here this morning, said that cooperation of every section of the society is must to liberate our younger generation from the yoke of drug addiction. Alleging that there are some black sheep among cops involved in helping drug mafia, he stressed the need to single out such elements to make the ongoing campaign more effective and result oriented. Ex Corporators Arun Khanna, Thakur Utam Singh Chib and others also addressed the gathering.
JKSPYM, a NGO working in the field of drug abuse treatment and prevention, organized a program in Psychiatry Hospital in collaboration with JKSACS, Psychiatry Department and MSJE Government of India. On the occasion,  Dr  Jagdeesh Thapa, Dr  Gurmeet Kour, Dr  Yash Karsyal,  Rishish Khajuria,  highlighted the disease concept of the drug abuse and encouraged people to come forward and talk about the problem, More than 200 hundred people from drug users community participated in the program and interacted with the doctors to discuss their problems and related issues.  JKSPYM team, including Project Manager, Noorish Parveen, Pooja and   Ankush assured the drug users community for providing services to get their sufferings addressed.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was jointly observed by Private Schools’ Association J&K, Ahsan Foundation and Civil Defence Srinagar at Mahajans Green Light Higher Secondary School Ishbar Nishat Srinagar. On this occasion students of the school presented various programmes, skid and speeches against drug addiction. Students Ifshana of 10th class bagged first position whereas Minha of 11th class got 2nd and Aman of 9th class was awarded 3rd position.
International Day of Drug Abuse and Illegal Traffation Day was observed at the Vijaypur Government Higher Secondary School wherein the students were told about the evils of intoxication on the society. The school Principal, Fateh Singh emphasized on the general public to keep an eye on those unscrupulous elements who were selling poison in the form of intoxicants to school going children.
