Intl Day for Disaster Risk Reduction observed

JAMMU, Oct 13: Internat-ional Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed today at Headquarters of SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu by conducting mock drill exercises cum demonstrations of rescue operations during man-made and natural disasters like road accident, first medical responder, collapse structure search and rescue, controlling of small fire incidents and flood water rescue.
A number of representatives from various departments, Civil Defence wardens as well as teachers and students of various Government and private educational Institutions were invited to witness the mock drill exercises cum demonstrations. Students of few schools also participated in the mock drill.
Chief guest of the function was Danish Rana, IGP Hgds/CD & SDRF, J&K. In his address, the IGP stated that the Directorate of Hgds/CD & SDRF, J&K has prepared comprehensive plans for training of SDRF personnel and purchase of high value rescue equipments. He requested all stake holders to prepare themselves in an efficient manner and strengthen capacity building for tackling adverse and hostile situations.
The Day was also observed at Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua, where a seminar was organized to make students aware of the precautions which can be taken. The social studies teacher of the school, Palki, delivered a lecture to the students on disaster reduction. Many students participated in it.
Co-ordinator, Pardeep Kour also spoke on the occasion. Principal, Shuchita Gupta and Co-ordinators, Shruti Sharma, Smriti Sharma and Pardeep Kour also spoke on the occasion.
