Involve rural youth to minimize disasters: IGP

UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Need of the hour is to involve rural youth in minimizing the impact of manmade and natural disasters by delivering mandatory training of disaster management at the village level besides familiarizing the rural peoples with the importance of disaster management techniques, the Inspector General of Police, Yoginder Koul said while addressing a meeting of field functionaries of Civil Defence organization here today.
He apprised the gathering that Govt of India has declared 13 districts of J&K as multi hazardous districts, among them district Udhampur is also one.
As per the guidelines, the Civil Defence setup was previously town centric but now it is being spread in whole of the district, said IGP. For the purpose he stressed the need for gearing  up CD activities in rural areas by imparting basic training to maximum  persons of civil society so that any disaster either manmade or natural could be managed within time.
While delivering welcome address, Dy. Controller Civil Defence Udhampur, Bodh Raj highlighted the activities of the organisation carried out in district during current year.
Civil Defence Wardens put forth their problems being faced in their respective Civil Defence areas.
Among others, Chief Warden Civil Defence, Surinder Khajuria, Deputy Chief Wardens, Ved Parkash & Advocate S. D Kotwal, Post Wardens, Sector Wardens, Wardens and Volunteers were present in the meeting.
