IPL Governing Council to meet tomorrow

CHENNAI, Apr 21: The Governing Council of Indian Premier League (IPL) will meet here tomorrow to decide whether Chennai would be the venue for the qualifier and eliminator matches to be played here on May 21 and 22 respectively.
The meeting to be chaired by Governing Council Chairman Rajiv Shukla will consider the demand of the IPL teams that the Sri Lankan players in their teams be permitted to play in Chennai if they make to the knockout stage. Their contention was that it would not be an equal contest if the key Sri Lankan players were omitted.
Following their demand IPL Governing Council and the BCCI decided to convene the meeting to arrive at a decision whether the matches should be played out of Chennai or not.
The Sri Lankan players in the respective IPL teams were banned from playing in Chennai in the wake of demands made by the Tamil Nadu Government, other political parties and some Tamil organisations in protest
against the alleged genocide of Tamils during the final stage of war against LTTE in 2009.
The meeting will take place at 1700 hrs here tomorrow at a five star hotel where the IPL teams were put up. (UNI)
