NEW DELHI, Apr 5: Kings XI Punjab today appointed former Ranji cricketer R Sridhar as their fielding coach for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting April 16.
“We are pleased to appoint R Sridhar as the fielding coach of the squad. He is a seasoned player whose contribution will add immense value to the squad. We are sure that he will prepare and encourage players to recognise and play to their strengths which will translate well for the team,” the promoters of the franchise said in a statement.
Sridhar is a former Hyderabad Ranji left-arm spinner, who played for Hyderabad. He started his coaching career in 2001.
“I am honoured to be a part of KXIP and would like to thank the franchisee for entrusting me with the opportunity to coach one of the most balanced team in IPL season 7,” Sridhar said.
“The squad constitutes of young, talented and experienced players and I am looking forward to working with them to make success in the upcoming IPL season,” he added.
The team’s coach Sanjay Bangar welcomed the newest addition to the coaching staff.
“On behalf of the team, I would like to welcome R Sridhar to KXIP. Sridhar has been a tremendous player and I am certain that together by setting in the right techniques, we will be able to coach the team to play some great cricket this season,” he said. (UNI)
