Armed Wing back bone of J&K Police: DGP

JAMMU, Dec 30: IRP-17th Battalion emerged overall champion by securing 28 medals including 15 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze medals in the Inter Battalion Sports Meet organized by the Armed Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police concluded here today.
In Basketball, JKAP-7th Battalion emerged winner, while IRP-4th Battalion remained runner up, whereas in Football, JKAP-9th Battalion clinched the title trophy and JKAP-8th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Hockey, IRP-3rd Battalion and IRP-12th Battalion emerged winner and runner-up respectively, whereas in Handball, IRP-18th Battalion emerged winner and IRP-7th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Kabaddi, IRP-1st Battalion emerged winner and JKAP-12th Battalion secured runner-up position, whereas in Tug-of War, IRP-7th Battalion and IRP-12th Battalion secured winner and runner-up positions respectively and in Volleyball, JKAP-7th Battalion emerged winner and JKAP-8th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Pistol Glock (25 meters) Standing Position, DySP Farooq Hussain Shah of IRP-1st Battalion emerged winner and SSP Rakesh Kumar Deputy Commandant IRP-12th Battalion secured runner-up, whereas in Pistol Glock (15 meters), SP Vijay Kumar Jamwal Deputy Commandant IRP-18th Battalion emergeds winner, while SSP Swarn Singh Kotwal Commandant IRP-6th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Table Tennis, DySP Paramvir Singh of IRP-16th Battalion emerged winner, while SP Sumir Kotwal Deputy Commandant IRP-15th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Badminton Men Singles, SSP Sanjeev Khajuria Commandant IRP-5th Battalion and SSP Kulwant Singh Jasrotia Commandant IRP-7th Battalion emerged winner and runner-up respectively, whereas in Badminton Men Doubles, SSP Sanjeev Khajuria Commandant IRP-5th Battalion and SSP Kulwant Singh Jasrotia Commandant IRP-7th Battalion emerged winner, while SSP Swan Singh Kotwal Commandant IRP-6th Battalion and SP Sumir Kotwal Deputy Commandant IRP-15th Battalion secured runner-up position.
In Lawn Tennis Men, SP Sanjay Kotwal SO to IGP AP/IRP emerged winner, while SP Samir Kotwal Deputy Commandant IRP-15th Battalion secured runner-up position.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of Inter Battalion Sports Meet was held at Gulshan Ground, here today.
On the occasion, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh was the chief guest. The closing ceremony was attended by a number of retired and serving senior police officers and huge crowd.
Speaking on this occasion, DGP J&K complemented ADGP Armed AK Choudhary and IGP Armed Jammu Danesh Rana and their team for successful organisation of the event.
DGP said that the Armed Wing is the back bone of the J&K Police which has come a long way from a humble beginning and today it is one of the best State Armed Police of the Country.
DGP congratulated the players and the officers for their participation and showing their excellence in sports and advised them to work for keeping the flags of the Police, State and the Country high.
While, praising the Asian Games Bronze medallist Bhanu Pratap Singh and National Wushu Coach Inspector Kuldeep Handoo, the DGP impressed upon the participating players to enhance their capabilities and excel at State, National and International level. He impressed upon the personnel to be fit by engaging themselves in different sports activities.
Dilbag Singh said that the J&K Police has been organising the sports events under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) for channelizing the energies of youth in positive directions through the medium of sports.
He also gave his good wishes to the police band who are going to play host in the competition being organised in the State in February 2019.
Earlier in his address ADGP Armed AK Choudhary presented a brief account of the event and the games played in it.
In his thanks giving speech, Organising Secretary of the event IGP Armed Jammu Danesh Rana said that during the event new sports talent of the Armed Zone was spotted which will be put to trails for selection in the Central Police Team and for the National competition.
