DODA, June 12: Islamia Cricket Club Banihal and Central Railways Nagpur registered resounding wins over their rivals to advance in the ongoing All India 8th Gufran Memorial T20 Cricket Championship, being organized by Young Star Cricket Club Doda at Sports Stadium, here.
Earlier, in the first match, Islamia Club Banihal drubbed Hill People Cricket Club Jammu easily by 73 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Islamia Club scored a mammoth total of 237 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process.
Irfan played a splendid innings of brisk 41-ball 90 runs, which included 12 boundaries and 5 sixes, while Manzoor contributed valuable 44 runs to the total. From Hill People Club, Habib and Waseem Malik shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, Hill People Club managed to score 164 runs in 15.2 overs, losing all their wickets to lose the match by 73 runs. Farooq was the top scorer with 44 runs, while Sakib contributed 20 runs to the total. Manzoor was the wrecker-in-chief for Islamia Club, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Irfan claimed 2 wickets. Irfan of Islamia Club was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant all-round show. He was presented trophy and cash prize by the chief guest Shahnawaz Choudhary, State President Pradesh Youth Congress.
Meanwhile, in another match played today, Central Railways Nagpur thrashed Youth Cricket Club by 9 wickets in a one-sided contest.
Batting first, Youth Club bundled out for a paltry total of 71 runs in 13.1 overs. Rabnawaz and Manzoor were the major contributors with 29 and 20 runs respectively. For Central Railways Nagpur, Pawan Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, who captured 4 wickets, while Sailash claimed 3 wickets.
Central Railways, in reply scored the required runs in just 7 overs by losing only one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Praveen was the top scorer with 37 runs, while Viraj contributed 17 runs to the winning cause. Sagar was the lone wicket taker for Youth Cricket Club.
The matches were officiated by Sanjay Singh and Subhash Mathur as umpires, while Mohd Ayoub acted as scorer.
