JAMMU, Jan 24: Ekta Kumari, an NCC cadet from Jammu and Kashmir, is set to make history as the first from the region to lead the National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls’ contingent at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26. Ekta, hailing from Akhnoor in Jammu district, is a prominent cadet with the NCC’s First Jammu and Kashmir Naval Unit. She is currently pursuing a BSc degree at Gandhi Nagar Government College for Women.
Her selection to lead the prestigious contingent is a source of immense pride for Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, as highlighted by Defence PRO Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal. Ekta’s inspiration to serve the nation came from her father, a retired soldier of the 12 Jammu and Kashmir (JAK) Light Infantry. From an early age, Ekta dreamed of joining the armed forces, and her educational journey began at Army Public School in Akhnoor, where she was drawn to the discipline and service of the military.
During her college years, Ekta joined the NCC, where she quickly excelled in various aspects, including social work and adventure activities. Her dedication and discipline set her apart, and she quickly rose through the ranks. Ekta’s selection as Parade Commander of the All India Girls Contingent at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, is a moment she describes as the proudest of her life.
In her statement, Ekta expressed heartfelt gratitude to her mentors, including her Associate NCC Officer (ANO), Lieutenant Colonel Abhijeet, Drill Ustaad Jaswinder, and the NCC team at the Nagrota camp, who guided her through rigorous training. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of her Unit Commanding Officer Lieutenant Commander Tej Ram, Group Commander Brigadier Deepak Sajjanhar SM, and other key officials.
Ekta’s success is not only a personal achievement but also serves as an inspiration to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, motivating them to pursue their dreams with determination, hard work, and resilience.
