J&K Police organizes Kashmir Marathon; Over 5000 athletes participate

SRINAGAR, Oct 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Police organized Kashmir Marathon-2023 ‘Run for Peace’ event under Civic Action Programme held at Boulevard Road, here today.
The marathon route stretched from Lake View Park Golf Course (LVPGC) to Duck Park via the picturesque Nishat-Foreshore road. Prizes worth Rs 65,2000 were distributed among winners of 13 different events including on spot raffle draw winners.
Special Director General of Police CID, J&K, R.R Swain was the chief guest on the occasion. He along with three former DGP’s A K Suri, Gopal Sharma, Kuldeep Khoda and senior officers distributed prizes, certificates among the winners of the event.
Swain appreciated the overwhelming participation of athletes from across the country in the event which was organized on Gandhi Jayanti. Referring to the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi about the Police, he said that ‘success of Police is possible only with the support & cooperation of people.
ADGP Armed/IR J&K, S.J.M Gillani informed that this year three major Central level events were organized in the UT level wherein around 7000 players participated and in this event, over 5000 athletes participated in 13 different categories.
The list of winners of different events and raffle draw were 21 Km Half Marathon (Men) won by Ravi Dass of Udhampur, 2nd position of Samba, 3rd Position by Hans Raj of Kathua, 4th Position by Gulbadan Hikmatyar of Ganderbal and 5th Position by Pankaj Kumar of Kathua.
In the 10 Km Road Race (For Boys) under-18 years was won by Jaffar Ali of Kargil, 2nd spot was grabbed by Mohammad Hussain of Magam and 3rd place went to Bilal Abbas of Kargil. In the 10 Km Road Race (For Girls) above-18 years won by Shamshad Bano of Reasi, 2nd to Rimpy Devi of Udhampur and 3rd place to Zoha Barkat of Jammu. In 8 Km Junior (Girls) Under 18 years won by Sakshi Thakur of Katra, 2nd to Anjali Rajput of Katra and 3rd place went to Sara Naqash of Srinagar.
In 8 Km veterans (Women) above 45 years was won by Roohi Sultana of Srinagar, 2nd to Simran Hoon of Srinagar and 3rd place went to Farah Shafi of Srinagar. In 8 Km Veterans (Men) above 45 years won by Ram Raj of Jammu, 2nd Mohammad Yahya of Kashmir Runners Club, and 3rd place went to Shafat Ul Bashir of Kashmir Runners Club.
In 5 Km Sub Junior (Boys) U/14 Years won by Mayir Khursheed of Srinagar, 2nd Athar Farooq of Anantnag and 3rd place went to Hashim Nabi of Srinagar, 4th Farzan Hussain of Kulgam, and 5th Tahir Shamim of Budgam.
In 4 Km Sub Junior (Girls) U/14 Years grabbed 1st position by Baiza Tariq of Ganderbal, 2nd Rayeesa of Srinagar, 3rd Aisha Hassan of Ganderbal, 4th Tarahum Soliha of Shopian, 5th Nabila Khan of Srinagar.
In 2 Km for Specially Challenged (Male) competition won by Fazil Nabi of Sopore, 2nd Makhan Lal Sharma of Jammu, 3rd Abid Bashir of Narbal Budgam, 4th Abid Hussain from Abhinandan Home, 5th Tasif Ahmad from Abhinandan Home. In 2 Km for Specially Challenged (Female) was won by Ulfat Bano from Abhinandan Home, 2nd Qasirah Qurashi of Ellahi Bagh Srinagar, 3rd Pakeeza Ali, 4th Jaza Fayaz and 5th Shaista Mashooq from Abhinandan Home.
In 2 Km for Specially Challenged (Male) on Wheelchair won by Irshad Manzoor of Srinagar, 2nd Gowhar Ahmad from VMS Sports Club, 3rd Mohammad Rafee from VMS Sports Club, 4th Altaf Hussain Wani of Budgam, 5th Rameez Raja of Budgam. In 2 Km for Specially Challenged (Female) on Wheelchair was won by Insha Bashir from VMS Sports Club, 2nd Sara Begum of Handwara, 3rd Nusrat Beigh of Baramulla, 4th Khan Sheena from VMS Sports Club and 5th Nusrat Ara of Srinagar.
In the 2 Km Run for Fun open for All Senior Citizens Men/Women & Children’s competition were won by Youngest Female Participant (2-years) Aiyeesha Bin Yasir of Srinagar. Youngest Male Participant (3 years) Ibaad Wasim Raja of Srinagar. The oldest female participant were (65 years) Shamima Bano of Srinagar while oldest Male participant (60 years) Manzoor Ahmad Nanda of Srinagar. The winners of the Raffle draw were Hiba Mir of Srinagar and Sheikhmoomin Bin Tariq of Srinagar.
