JAMMU, July 27: Jaiveer Singh FIDE Rating Chess tournament got underway at International DPS School, Bathindi, here today.
The event is being organized by Crown Trust under the aegis of All J&K Chess Association in the memory of Chess player Jaiveer Singh who died in a tragic road accident.
Jaiveer’s uncle Taranjeet Singh Tony and father Taranvir Singh Gujral were present on the inaugural ceremony.
SP South, Vinay Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp alongwith other dignitaries.
He also played inaugural match with Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association.
DySP Prosecution Raj Kumar is the organizing secretary of this event.
Nitin Shenvi, International Arbiter is the chief arbiter of this event while Anil Kotwal, Bindu Pathania, Sumit Grover are assisting him. Madhu Abrol is the coordinator of the event.
“120 players are participating in this event .This will give a big chance to all the unrated players to achieve FIDE Ratings if they score required points against rated players. About 80 players are participating from J&K including some from remote areas of Kashmir.
Total 9 rounds will be played under FIDE Laws of Chess. All the players appreciated the warm hospitality of IDPS School,” said Atul.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest lauded the efforts of All J&K Chess Association and IDPS for organizing such a big event.
This is the 13th All India level event by All J&K Chess Association.
Prominent among others present on the occasion Lt Col Shomi Sugathan, Vikesh Kour, Principal Doon School were guests of honour.
Special guests include Roma Bhagotra, Baldev Raj, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Suminder Singh MD IDPS, Randeep Wazir, Academic Director IDPS, Madhu Abrol, Manager IDPS School, Dr AS Bhatia and Vikas Nanda.
