Srinagar, Dec 26: The Jal Shakti department emerged victorious in the 2nd edition of the Corporate Cup Cricket Tournament today by defeating the Food Supplies Department team in the finals held at Jhelum Stadium, Baramulla, in North Kashmir.
Despite subzero temperatures, a huge crowd turned up to witness the thrilling clash between the two top teams competing for the cup. Nearly 12 teams, representing different departments, participated in the tournament, which was organized by the Baramulla Cricket Forum.
Captain Ajaz Ahmad Boto, Executive Engineer of PHE Division Baramulla, emphasised the significance of such events for the well-being of employees dealing with demanding schedules. “These tournaments provide a much-needed break for mental and physical rejuvenation,” he said. He expressed hope for the continuation of such tournaments in the future, involving more departments and teams.
Following the match, a ceremonial presentation took place at the stadium, where organisers and members of civil society honoured players with well-deserved trophies and medals. The Baramulla Cricket Forum, the tournament organisers, reiterated their commitment to hosting such events regularly at Jhelum Stadium. “Our goal is to cultivate a sports culture in North Kashmir,” one organizer said, adding that the sports act as a powerful deterrent against negative influences such as drugs and anti-social activities.
