JAMMU, May 29: Winning all their matches played today by convincing margins, District Jammu boys dominated the Day-1 of the Divisional Level Inter-District Boys Kabaddi Tournament, under the age groups of 14 and 16 Years, which got underway at Youth Hostel Nagrota, here.
Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest in the inaugural function and declared the tournament open in a colourful function. He was accompanied by Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, SS Bali and District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Tirath Ram.
While Speaking on the occasion, Jaipal Singh stressed upon the students to play with sportsman spirit and preserve sanctity of games and sports. He appreciated them for showing stamina and courage in fighting for the top honours, despite scorching heat.
Earlier, SS Bali, Chairman of the tournament presented a welcome address and brief report of the tournament.The vote of thanks was presented by Tirath Ram, organizing secretary of the event.
Meanwhile in kabaddi under-17 boys, Samba scripted a narrow win by 2 points over Udhampur (32-30), Udhampur drubbed Kishtwar by 25 points (32-7), Samba defeated Kishtwar by 16 points (25-9), Jammu trounced Rajouri by 11 points (28-17), Doda got better of Reasi by 5 points (30-25), Ramban outplayed Rajouri by 9 points (34-25) and Jammu outclassed Doda by 6 points (21-15).
In kabaddi Under-14 boys, Jammu thrashed Samba by a huge margin of 44 points (59-15), Poonch drubbed Udhampur by 22 points (53-31), Kathua toppled Doda by 15 points (35-20) and Rajouri drubbed Reasi by 30 points (48-18).
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Jeet Singh, convener technical committee, Sarita Pandha, Pushpa Sharma, Rakesh Kumari, Rajni Kumari, Veena Tickoo, Jaswant Singh, Rakesh Kakkar, Tarseem Singh and Sadiq Hussain Malik.
