JAMMU, Sept 21: Jammu district boys prevailed upon equally strong lads of Udhampur district in an exciting summit clash via golden raid and lifted the kabaddi title in the ongoing Divisional Level Inter-District U-19 Tournament in the disciplines of kabaddi and kho-kho, which concluded at Youth Hostel Nagrota ground, here today.
Soujanya Sharma, Joint Director Information, Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who alongwith Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma exhorted upon the participants to follow the true principles of dedication and team work to achieve success in their endeavours and said that devotion and dedication is the mantra for success.
Earlier, in Under-19 boys kho-kho final, Doda drubbed Rajouri by 7 points to win the title.
Doda district boys dominated the proceedings from the word go and played as a cohesive unit throughout the match to script a convincing victory by 7 points (13-6). Ganesh Singh, Arif and Sanket Sharma were the top performers from Doda, while Arun Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar played well for Rajouri.
In the kho-kho semifinal matches played earlier, Rajouri registered a narrow win over Udhampur by one point (6-5), while Doda got better of Samba by 6 points (12-6).
The kho-kho matches were officiated by Rakesh Kakar, Sham Singh, Ravi Kumar, Suraj Dev Singh, Narayan Singh, Balwan Singh and Ravinder Bali.
Meanwhile, in the kabaddi final, both Jammu and Udhampur district boys displayed extra-ordinary catching and raiding skills and the match ended in a tie in the stipulated time as both the teams scored equal number of points (21-21). This was followed by extra time given to the teams, wherein both the teams again scored equal number of points (6-6), which left the decision of the match to golden raid in which Jammu prevailed upon Udhampur to clinch the trophy.
In kabaddi semifinals, Jammu trounced Reasi by 23 points (52-29), while Udhampur outclassed Samba by 11 points (31-20).
The kabaddi matches were officiated by Ashok Kumar, Ram Murti, Ram Pal, Bua Ditta, Sanatan Sharma, Tilak Raj, Gulbir Singh and Anubhav Dev.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Swaran Singh Chib, District Youth services and Sports Officer, Reasi, Tirath Ram, DYSSO Jammu, Pushpa Sharma, Sarita Pandha, Manorama Sharma, Jeet Singh, Rajesh Sambyal and Veena Tickoo.
