Jammu District Boxing C’ship commences

JAMMU, Dec 9: The Jammu District Boxing Championship 2024 kicked off today at the Indoor Sports Complex, M.A. Stadium, with over 350 boxers from various schools, hostels and local clubs participating. Organized under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India, J&K Amateur Boxing Association, and J&K Olympic Association, and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, the event promises to highlight the district’s boxing talent.
The Championship was inaugurated by Suresh Kumar, former national medallist, and attended by dignitaries including Dr. Nirmolak Singh, President of the J&K Amateur Boxing Association, and Ravinder Bhushan, a former national medalist. The event is being officiated by Aakash Baigra, Khalida Bano, Pradeep Sharma, and Anju Bala.
In the matches held today, Rohit Sharma defeated Piyush Kumar in Sub Junior Boys (46-49kg), while in Junior Boys; Ayush Jagotra triumphed over Style Sandhu. In the Youth Men’s category, Basu Dev defeated Manjeet Singh and Aman Choudhary overcame Raman Aditya.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar District Boxing Championship 2024 also concluded today at Bakshi Stadium. Organized by the J&K Amateur Boxing Association, the event saw top performances from boxers like Tabina, Mabiya, Najia Bashir, Sunya, Sakib Sareen, Azam , Sakib and Kamran. Maqsood Ahmed Khan, Manager of Bakshi Stadium, was the chief guest, praising the athletes for their sportsmanship and dedication. Both championships provided a valuable platform for local talent to showcase their skills and contribute to the growth of boxing in Jammu and Kashmir.
