JAMMU, Sept 6: Organised by Jammu and Kashmir Judo Association, under the auspices of J&K Olympic Association and J&K State Sports Council, the Jammu District Judo Championship got underway at Indoor Complex MA Stadium, here today.
Over 300 judokas drawn from the institutions of GD Goenka Public School, KC International, Jodhamal, SOS, BSF Paloura, JK Public, SMS School and Coaching Centre participated in the event.
Rachpal Singh, MLA Kalakote was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Ashutosh Sharma and Kuldeep Singh Jamwal were the guests of honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were RC Thakur, Ashok Singh, Varinder Dogra, Shiv Kumar, Rohit Gupta, Suraj Sharma, Ajay Gupta, Varinder Sharma, Raj Kumar, Ashwani Dogra and Ranjodh Singh.
Meanwhile, on the opening day events were held in various weight categories and the judokas displayed superb technique and skill to achieve the top honours.
In below 35 kg category, Shreesh Mansotra bagged gold, Shivam Sharma silver, while the bronze medal went to Abyaveer Singh and Nikhil Mangotra.
Shashank Baru claimed gold in below 45 kg category, while Pawandeep Singh bagged silver. The bronze medal was shared by Kanav Gupta and Manshit.
In below 55 kg, gold medal went to Shubam Singh and the silver to Kunal Sharma, while Wazid Ali and Yaspreet Singh bagged bronze medals.
In above 55 kg, Jaspreet Singh and Sagar Singh bagged gold and silver respectively, while Samarjeet Singh and Mohit Koul claimed bronze medals.
Om Baloria claimed gold in 20 kg and Pranavdev Singh clinched silver, while Dewang Gupta and Gorang Abrol bagged bronze.
In above 35 kg, Kavish Gupta won the gold medal, while silver went to Bilal Ahmed and the bronze was bagged by Aryan Gandotra and Lakhan Baru.
Under-12 below 45 kg gold went to Paras Kumar, while Prayansh Gupta bagged silver and the bronze medal went to Sukhbir Singh.
In open weight, Manish Sharma won gold, Soham Gupta claimed silver and the bronze went to Ronal Singh and Aryaveer Singh.
Meanwhile, in below 10 years, Shreyaansh claimed gold and Johan Gupta got silver, while the bronze medal went to Shivam and Abhimanyu Mehra.
The matches were officiated by Suraj Bhan Singh, Arshi Nad, Vikas Dogra, Ritika Slathia and Rameshwar Singh.
