JAMMU, Aug 25: The Jammu District Yoga Sports Championship 2024, organized by the Yoga Association of Jammu & Kashmir under the aegis of the J&K Olympic Association, was held at Brahma Kumari’s Om Shanti Meditation Centre in Jammu. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 240 young yoga athletes, both boys and girls, representing various schools and institutions across the district.
The championship was inaugurated with a candle-lighting ceremony by the Brahma Kumaris. Rajyogini B.K. Sudarshan Didi was the chief guest and B.K. Ravinder Bali was the guest of honour. They presented medals and certificates to the winners in the presence of Secretary General Vinod Bhatia and other association members. During the event, the importance of yoga was highlighted, and participants were encouraged to prepare diligently for the upcoming 5th J&K UT Yoga Sports Championship 2024.
In the boys’ categories, Dhayaan Sharma, Navjot Singh, Banshu Sharma, Lakshya Mahajan, Surender Rajput, and Himanshu Verma emerged victorious in the 8-10, 10-12, 12-14, 14-16, 16-18, and 18-21 age groups, respectively. For the girls, Harshita Mandla, Ananya Kotwal, Sadhya Sharma, Anahita, Akriti Singh, and Sunakshi Rajput won the top spots in the corresponding age groups. In the 21-25 age categories, Nitika Sharma clinched the first position.
The championship was officiated by national referees and judges from the Yoga Federation, including Mukesh Sharma, Aryaaveer Singh, Sonia Sharma, Sabita Sharma, Anushka Koul, Sunita Raina, and Veena Chib.
