JAMMU, July 13: Jammu Division selection events in Chess in all categories under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council started today at Nek Hotel, Jammu.
Ashutosh Jamwal won the event in senior open championship while Ravi Sharma of Kathua got second position and Sumit Grover secured 3rd place. In Under-9 category open section Alankrita Sharma won the event while Paras Sharma got second and Viraj Raina claimed 3rd place.
In under-7 age category Gurfateh Singh got 1st position while Samyak Kalsi came second and Udhyan Atri secured 3rd place. In under-19 girls, Arushi Kotwal got 1st position. In under-11 age category, girls Ahana Gupta won the event while in under-15 and under-9 girls Alankrita Sharma won the event. The total cash prizes worth Rs 38,000 were distributed among the winners in above categories
All the matches were conducted by Anil Kotwal FIDE Arbiter with the technical support of Arvindu Sharma as per FIDE Laws of Chess under Swiss system. Atul Kumar Gupta Joint Secretary, All India Chess Federation and working president AJKCA and Baldev Raj President AJKCA were also present on the occasion. Remaining categories will be held tomorrow and day after tomorrow.
