Jammu doctor conducts rare heart procedure on 2 patients

JAMMU, Feb 28: A senior Cardiologist from Jammu Dr Amit Bhushan Sharma has successfully implanted bioresorbable stents in open blocked arteries of two patients from Jammu including 67 years old Janak Kumar of Bari Brahmana and 53 years old Mohammad Aslam from Poonch.
Dr Bhushan, the son of the soil, conducted the procedure at Artemis, Gurgaon.
Son of Dr Kumkum Sharma and Dr DB Sharma, Dr Amit headed the team of doctors, which conducted the procedure.
After the procedure, Dr Amit said: “this is the beginning of new era in Intervention Cardiology’’.
Janak Kumar underwent the angioplasty procedure with the help of Abbott’s Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold (BVS). He was suffering from chronic kidney disease and was awaiting renal transplant. He was diagnosed with critical blockage in his arteries during procedure.
Mohammed Aslam got his dissolvable stents implanted for his disabling angina.
Dr Amit said: “earlier, we had the metallic drug-eluting stents with their hazards of re-blockage (stent thrombosis and restenosis) necessitating prolonged use of blood thinning medicines. The introduction of dissolvable stents will be beneficial for young patients and for those having multiple blockages’’.
