Jammu ideal for IIT

Union Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jatinder Singh rightly argues that Jammu is ideal place for opening IIT given its geographical location and connectivity. Definitely there is potential among the youth to take up career as efficient technocrats and contribute to the growth and development of the State. He has impressed upon the Union Minister of HRD that an IIT in Jammu and a KV in Doda would mean good boost to professional as well as non-professional education in the State especially in backward areas like Doda. It is satisfying that the Minister, who hails from Doda-Udhampur constituency, is keen to open the campuses of Jammu University in Udhampur, Doda and Kathua. We find merit in his suggestion to the Union Minister for HRD that there should be streamlining in the norms and process of making appointment of faculties and vice chancellors in various universities of the State.
Opening of an IIT in Jammu will be of much significance to the State especially when we taken into account the vast hilly and backward areas of the districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban and Doda where students, though meritorious, find it financially difficult for them to pursue higher and professional education in other parts of the country. Much of our talent gets wasted, which we need to stop at any cost.
