Jammu outplays Samba; lifts title trophy

JAMMU, Mar 31: Jammu District outclassed District Samba in the final and clinched the 11th Bhai Gurbux Singh State Korfball Championship title held at play field, Gandhi Nagar here today.
In the final match, Jammu team thrashed Samba District team by 17-12. Half time score was 7-5 in favour of Jammu.
For Jammu Felcus scored 4 goals, Irfan and Mohit contributed 3 goals each, whereas for Samba team side, Ashwini scored 5 goals and Diksha scored 4 goals.
Meanwhile, Pulwama defeated Anantnag by straight 3-0 goals and secured third place in the tournament.
On the valedictory function, Naveen Aggarwal, DG Sports, Department of Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest and awarded the winners and runner-ups with medals and trophies.
While speaking, DG Sports Naveen Aggarwal assured that DYSS will reintroduce the game in department activity and will approach SGFI to re-include the game in SGFI calendar.
Aggarwal asked Korfball Federation to send proposal to the Secretary General SGFI for inclusion the game.
Earlier, Tarlok Singh, working president of Korfball Association presented the welcome address.
He said that J&K players have tremendous potential to prove their ability in this game by winning the medals at national and international levels.
Singh appealed to DG Youth Services Department for inclusion of Korfball discipline in SGFI once again as a regular feature.
In the end, Manjeet Singh, general secretary, presented vote of thanks.
