JAMMU, Feb 22: In a status report filed in pursuance to the directions passed by the High Court on November 20, 2018, the Commissioner Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department has revealed shortage of 454 doctors in Jammu province health institutions.
In the status report filed through Senior AAG H A Siddiqui, the Health and Medical Education Department has submitted that 41 posts of doctors are lying vacant in Doda district while as in Jammu district 49 doctors are surplus and 12 posts are lying vacant.
In Kathua district, 15 doctors are surplus and 72 posts are lying vacant while as in Kishtwar district 08 doctors are surplus and 18 posts are lying vacant. In Poonch, 5 doctors are surplus and 66 posts are lying vacant.
In Rajouri district, 12 doctors are surplus and 87 posts are lying vacant while as in Ramban district, 13 doctors are surplus and 30 posts are lying vacant. In Samba district, 5 doctors are surplus and 15 posts are lying vacant while as in Reasi district, three doctors are surplus and 50 posts are lying vacant. In Udhampur district, 05 doctors are surplus and 63 posts are lying vacant.
In the status report, it has been mentioned that overall sanctioned strength of Medical Officers, Consultants, Senior Consultants, Dental Surgeons and Consultant Dentistry is 2163 and 1709 are in position and there is a shortfall of 454 vacancies.
Advocate S S Ahmed appearing for the PIL filed by RTI activist Balwinder Singh sought time to examine the status report and the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan directed the Registry to list the PIL on March 7, 2019 when the status report filed today will be considered.
