JAMMU, Jan 1: Jammu Raiders crushed Urdu Department by 17 runs in the inaugural match of series which is being played between Jammu Raiders and Urdu Department at University of Jammu, here today.
Dr Vikas Sharma, coordinator Jammu District Urban and secretary Central Zone JKNC was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Rajesh Sharma was the guest of honour.
Dr Vikas Sharma urged the present UT Government to open more doors for imparting sports training to the young generation for yielding positive results of their talent and advised the players to desist them from following the path of drug addiction.
Batting first, Jammu Raiders were 171 by losing 6 wickets with the opening wicket partnership of 105 runs between Captain Vikshay Vashist and Pankaj Sharma. Vikshay Vashist and Pankaj Sharma contributed 47 and 46 runs to the total respectively.
While chasing a target of 172 runs, Abir Butt scored 50 runs and Shujaat Hussain contributed 24 runs on behalf of the Urdu Department. After 20 overs, the Urdu Department were 154/8. Salman Mir took 2 wickets. Ishtyaq Ahmad and Sajjad Ahmad grabbed 1 wicket each which helped Raiders to win the match by 17 runs.
Dr Vikas felicitated the winning team by presenting the trophy and emphasized the imperative need to hold such activities, which generate positive impact on youth and propel them to lead a life of peace and prosperity in the future, he added.
