JAMMU, Nov 20: Displaying endurance and showing composure, Jammu Runners Group (JRG) sparkled in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2017 held at Delhi yesterday.
Amid warnings from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over escalating levels of toxic smog in the National Capital, the Marathon was held with around 35,000 participants from all walks of life across the world taking part in it.
From Jammu about 20 participants dared to go for Half Marathon and 10 Kilometers run. All of them finished and brought laurels to the State by winning 20 medals in different categories ranging from 20 years to 60 years. Kanupriya Garg was excellent in 10 kilometers, caliming 4th position, while Vivek Mahajan also finished 10 kilometers within medal winning time.
The Half Marathon finishers, who did it in style included Rovleen Kour and Taranjeet Singh (daughter and father duo), Vikram Garg, Kumnal Chib, Kasturi Lal, Jatin Sharma, Virender Sharma, Deepak Gupta, Samita Sharma and Neeraj Rohmetra.
Dilawar Khan, Sham Lal and Sanjay Saini also completed the race within stipulated time.
However, the man behind the performance of Jammu Runners Group is Rajesh Padha, Veteran Marathon Runner, who also broke his previous best in style. He completed his 20th race including 14th Half Marathon, 4 Full Marathon and 2 10,000 meters run, winning National silver medals within short span of 6 years.
Parbhat Singh, retired SSP as usual showed a great will and displayed athletic ability to complete the race with a great finishing. The Marathon was flagged off by Union Sports Minster Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Ethiopia’s Berhanu Legese and reigning Olympic 10,000 metre champion Almaz Ayana won the elite men’s and women’s races.
