RAMBAN, Feb 10: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic since last evening due to continuous rain and landslides at several places in Ramban sector.
Official sources said that due to felling of boulders and frequent shooting of stones at Panthiyal last evening, the highway was blocked at around 6 pm. Due to continuous rain in the sector since early morning today till 2 pm, the road was blocked at Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, Seri and some other places today.
The rain again started after 4 pm and it continued till late evening. Through tranship, many passengers via Maitra and old Ramban bridge moved on both the sides during the day but road could not be cleared till late this evening. Cafeteria Morh and Seri sliding zones were cleared but Panthiyal and Mehar areas were still giving trouble. The movement of traffic could not be allowed from Jammu or Srinagar side today.
Many vehicles were stranded along the highway since last evening. The Traffic Police authorities said that highway may be restored by tomorrow morning if weather improved.
