JAMMU, Sept 22: The Association of Gynaecologic Oncologists of India, a national body through its local chapter is organizing a Globathon walk through a local organizing committee on September 29, here in the City of Temples.
The objective of Globathon walk is to seek support of social media network in order to raise awareness about cancer, unify professional organisations and NGOs in a common goal of raising awareness and facilitate dissemination of knowledge regarding origin and treatment of cancer.
“The walk would start from three points— University of Jammu Campus, Women College, Parade and Women College, Gandhi Nagar, simultaneously at 8.30 am and culminate by 10am in Stadium Ground’, disclosed Prof Kasturi Lal, chairman of the association, while interacting with the media persons at Hospital for Women, opposite Greater Kailash, here today.
Dr Kasturi Lal, who took initiative to organize this event in Jammu, said that a Gynaecologic cancer awareness movement providing information pertaining to Gynaecologic cancer risks, early detection and its prevention can be initiated only through a social network.
“In areas where the cancer is highest there are no organized public awareness events aimed at education around screening and prevention of cancer in women. For Gynaecologic awareness and prevention, we will have to intensify cancer awareness campaign”, he asserted.
Around 2000 volunteers derived from educational institutions, organisations, medical and paramedical institutions and other NGOs are likely to participate in the Globathon walk.
