JAMMU, May 14: Outplaying the rivals convincingly in their respective semifinals today, formidable Jammu zone and equally balanced Bhalwal zone have sealed berth in the finals of the Inter-Zonal Under-14 boys cricket and will lock horns with each other in the summit clash at GHSS Bakshi Nagar, here tomorrow.
This Under-14 boys cricket tournament is a part of District Level Inter-Zonal competitions in the disciplines of cricket (boys), kho-kho, kabbadi and volleyball Under-14 and Under-17 girls, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal at GHSS Bakshi Nagar, Green Field and M A Stadium Jammu.
Earlier, in Under-14 boys’ cricket semifinals, Jammu zone defeated Miran Sahib zone by 22 runs in an easy contest.
Batting first, Jammu zone scored a fighting total of 125 runs in the stipulated 15 overs. Ayush Andotra top scored with 59 runs off 41 balls, studded with 8 boundaries and one six, while skipper Musaif scored brilliant 50 runs off just 24 balls, with the help of 7 boundaries and one six. For Miran Sahib zone, Jaganjot took 2 wickets, while Sachin claimed one.
In reply, Miran Sahib zone bundled out for 103 runs in 14.5 overs, thus lost the match by 22 runs. Sachin top scored with 31 runs off 29 balls with 3 fours and one six, while Ramandeep Singh and Sanampreet Singh chipped in with 10 and 9 runs respectively. For Jammu zone the spinning trio of Sanad, Praful Dhar and Martvan spun web around the rival batsmen, sharing 7 wickets between them, with 3, 2 and 2 respectively. Sanad took 3 wickets by conceding 27 runs in his 3 overs, while Praful Dhar and Martvan bagged 2 wickets each in 3 overs by giving away 11 and 9 runs respectively.
In another semifinal, Bhalwal zone thrashed Marh zone by 9 wickets. Batting first, Marh zone scored 70 runs, while in reply, Bhalwal scored the required runs by losing just one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets.
In cricket Under-17 boys, being held at M A Stadium, Miran Sahib beat Gandhi Nagar zone by16 runs. Miran Sahib scored 97 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in12 overs.
Sahil top scored with 42 runs and Amandeep contributed 16 runs to the total. Pankaj took 2 wickets.
Gandhi Nagar zone bundled out for 81 runs. Lilerjeet and Abhishek chipped in with 14 runs each.
In another match, Jammu got better of Marh zone by 4 runs in a close contest. Jammu scored 64 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 12 overs, with Kanhaiya top scoring with 27 runs and Abdul Samad contributing 17 runs to the total. Munish and Vishal took 1 wicket each for Marh zone.
Marh zone, in reply, managed to score 60 runs in 12 overs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 4 runs.
Harsh was the top scorer with 25 runs, while Vishal contributed 11 runs to the total. Aayush scalped 4 important wickets, while Satvik claimed 2.
Satwari zone thrashed Jourian by 73 runs in a one-sided contest. Batting first, Satwari scored a decent total of 138 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Vikrant (44), Rahul (42) and Pavit (11) were the main scorers. For Jourian Zone, Deepak claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, Jourian zone scored 65 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in12 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 73 runs. Sagar and Akshay contributed 20 and 12 runs respectively. Vasu and Pavit took 2 wickets each.
Meanwhile, in kho-kho Under-17 girls, Miran Sahib zone beat Arnia Zone by 1 turn and 6 points, Dansal got better of Bishnah zone by 5 points (7-2), Khour zone outplayed R S Pura zone by one point (3-2), Satwari zone drubbed Chowki Choura by 1 turn and 1 point, Jammu zone prevailed over Gandhi Nagar zone by 1turn and one point, Miran Sahib zone trounced Bhalwal by 3 points (6-3), Khour zone outclassed Dansal zone by one point (2-1), Satwari beat Marh zone by 1 turn and 4 pts and Akhnoor beat Jammu by 1 turn and 8 points.
In kho-kho Under-14 girls, Gandhi Nagar zone beat R S Pura by (6-2), Miran Sahib trounced Chowki Choura Zone by (8-2), Bishnah zone thrashed Marh zone by 1 turn and 2 points, Arnia zone beat Satwari by (4-2) points, Akhnoor prevailed over Gandhi Nagar zone by (8-4)points, Miran Sahib zone outplayed Khour by (8-2), Bhalwal zone outclassed Arnia zone by (9-2) points and Bishnah zone beat Dansal zone by (6-3) points.
In kabbadi Under-14 girls final, Akhnoor zone beat Jourian zone by (48-32) points. Mamta and Maisha were the star performers
In volleyball Under-17 girls, Bhalwal will take on Gandhi Nagar zone in the summit clash.
In the first semifinal, Bhalwal zone got better of Miran Sahib zone by (2-1) sets, while in another semifinal, Akhnoor beat Gandhi Nagar zone by (2-1) sets.
In volleyball Under-14 girls, Bhalwal zone beat Satwari zone by (2-0) sets in the first semifinal, while in second semifinal, Gandhi Nagar zone beat Miran Sahib Zone by (2-1) sets.
