BANDIPORA, July 6: Indian Army, J&K Water Skiing Association and the District Administration joined hands together to successfully conduct Jashn-e -Wular Festival, here.
The finals of the Mega event today saw about 3000 locals, including women, cheering for their respective teams.
Major General Ajai Kumar Singh, SM, VSM was the chief guest on the occasion, while Zulfikar SSP Bandipora and Rafiq ud Din, General Secretary Water Skiing Association were also present.
The three day sports festival was aimed at creating environmental and sports awareness amongst the locals residing on the banks of Wular Lake, about the tourism potential of the natural gift ‘Wular’. The sports festival saw the local fishing community from 37 villages actively participating in Kistie Race Competition as well as in Jashn-e-Wular Run.
Continuing with events on final day, demonstration on water skiing was also given by expert water sports enthusiasts from J&K. Cultural events by Army Goodwill schools, Bandipora and Sopore were also organized along with local cultural troupe showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
The event paved way for bonhomie between civilians, civil administration and the Army and also assisted in identification of growing talent in the area.
